Simple Saline Breast Implants

Advantages

Simple saline implants are filled with saline, the same fluid used in an IV and the same type of fluid found throughout the human body. Because of this, when a simple saline implant leaks the saline is harmlessly absorbed by the body. The saline implant collapses in this case and because the breast then gets smaller, you know something has happened and that your implant needs attention. No MRI studies are required to check on your implants as in the case of silicone gel filled implants. These implants are the least expensive, and require the smallest incision to insert.

Disadvantages

Because the simple saline has no structure, it feels very much like a water balloon. If your skin is thin, ripples can be seen in certain areas of the implant. These ripples can also be felt in many cases, and because these issues can show evidence of an underlying implant, many patients don’t feel these implants give the most natural appearing and natural feeling result.
