About Dr. Lowenstein

Dr. Lowenstein is somewhat obsessed with getting things just right. His personal beliefs of “Doing the right thing,” and “Millimeters matter,” are reflected in the way he goes about all aspects of patient care.

Dr. Lowenstein grew up in the Washington DC area and began his medical experience even in high school. Having finished his high school requirements early he was allowed to attend an internship at Children’s Hospital National Medical center at that young age to gain early exposure to medicine and surgery. Following his undergraduate degree in molecular biology at the University of Wisconsin, he attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A five year residency in general surgery followed at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, known for its intense clinical regimen and rigorous surgical training. Dr. Lowenstein then went on specific plastic surgery training for two further years at the University of Massachusetts, with a clinical emphasis in aesthetic surgery at the Lenox Hill Hosptial in New York City.

Following his extensive training, Dr. Lowenstein moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked for 7 years in advanced reconstructive and microsurgery including cancer surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, and separation of conjoined twins, with a particular emphasis on breast surgery. Dr. Lowenstein was then recruited to Santa Barbara to join and subsequently head Montecito Plastic Surgery where he has concentrated on Aesthetic Surgery since 2007.

When the opportunity arose for Dr. Lowenstein to design and build a specialized Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center in downtown Santa Barbara, he moved the practice from Montecito to his current State Street location where his practice has flourished as a referral for both primary and secondary complicated plastic surgery patients.

Dr. Lowenstein is married and has two lovely children, a daughter and a son. He is an avid bicycle rider and skier and spends much of his recreational time at his second home in Aspen, Colorado. Between Santa Barbara and Colorado, Dr. Lowenstein is able to enjoy the abundance of outdoor activity that both locations offer, and particularly enjoys exposing his children to the wonders of nature from the Pacific ocean to the Rocky Mountains.

Dr. Lowenstein is an active member of multiple associations and societies, including the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), the California Medical Society, the Santa Barbara Medical Society, and multiple alumni associations. He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
